I Can't Think of Another Sound for Spring

Another cute little plant-to-be. I don't know what kind of plant this is going to grow up to be, but it sure looks cool now.

Boing

Isn't this just a happy little sprout? Something about it just makes me happy.

Glass Thingys

Know what these are? I do. My mom collects them. It's something she came by honestly though - because my grandparents collect them too. They're antiques. People (the government? I'm not sure who exactly did this really) used to use these to protect the nubbin things on telephone poles. (You can tell I'm an expert on this subject, can't you?)

... Something About Mr. McGregor's Garden...

And thusly, something about Peter Rabbit. Which would get to an Easter joke but quick.

Lady Bug

My grandpa would probably be upset with me for this. He HATES these bugs and I not only took this picture in his garden, I also didn't kill the bug when I was done. I agree with him, they're obnoxious as hell, but it's so cute! Lookit him! He's adorable.

New Life

One of the things I really love about spring is finding all of these green things poking up out of nowhere.

Luftballoons

There are only two of them and they aren't red. But all the same. I really like hot air balloons - seeing them from the ground anyway; I've never been in one. They seem very peaceful. From the ground. Not a fan of heights, me.

Er... I'm Not Sure They Thought This Through...

Soo... in my opinion the biggest flop of Target Field (excepting the lack of retractable roof, which I'm sorry, it's just dumb to not have) is the Budweiser roof deck. Okay, so maybe it'll be nice to have a lot of the drunken idiots all herded into one place where I can avoid them as much as possible. On the other hand, it's seriously lame. Furthermore, one of the main attractions of this Roof Deck is the fire pit.

The fire pit with no barrier around it.

The OPEN FLAMES in what they are touting as the place to go drink.

I'm sorry it's been my experience that lots of drinking and open flames don't mix that well. Or at all. Really.

The fire pit does look really cool though.
Like chunks of ice on fire. Which is pretty fitting for Minnesota, when you think about it.

Alright Fine...

Okay... I admit it. Watching baseball under the sky is going to be pretty cool. This was taken from the upper deck of Target Field. And beautiful clear days like Saturday are going to be lovely.

Of course... if we ever do draw the All Star Game to the Twin Cities, it'll probably snow in July. Because that's just the way it goes...

Puck is my Homeboy

This is a super cool wall in part of one of the fancier areas of Target Field. There were a couple of these throughout the stadium actually, but I'm pretty sure Puck was the first baseball player I was aware of. He was my first baseball boyfriend (the first in a line of really great baseball players). He's Puck. And that's freakin' awesome. I like him being around the new field. You can tell from this photo - but the way it's situated, Puck's smiling AT the field. It's really pretty cool.

Smell Em!

Mmmmm.... smell that? That's eight more years, folks.

Smells goooooood. Also, in case you were wondering, that sound just now? That was the sound of the entirety of Twins Territory letting out the breath they've been holding since October. It's possible we may have affected the Earth's orbit...

(Also, let's hope that guy behind him sticks around too.)

Play Ball!

Through a stroke of very good luck I got the chance to go to the season ticket holder's open house showing off Target Field today. Have to say - they sure are classing up the joint compared to the Dome. Granted that wouldn't have taken too much, but still... there are parts of that park that I would be embarrassed to be in while wearing jeans and Twins tee-shirt. Then again, I'll more than likely never see those parts of the park again, so that works out.

I will admit the site lines in the park look pretty damn good, and sitting in the sunshine on a 35 degree day was actually very pleasant. It was also exceptionally cool to sit in the sun in the new ball park, drink a beer, and watch the last couple innings of the tiebreaker on the jumbotron. I don't know how many games I'll actually get to see this year (what with all the bandwagoneers and all) but I think I'm going to like the ones I do get to see.

I will say though - when it comes to the shade: it's a damn good thing they have those heat lamps in the concourses.

Growth

I think this is going to be an Iris some day. I'm not 100% sure of that. But I know that last year there were a bunch of iris growing where I took this, and I have a vague memory of this being what Iris look like when they first start out, but I might be making that up. Honestly to me it actually looks like some crazy cross between Amaryllis and ginger. But I'm pretty well convinced that's not what it is. Regardless of what it is, or what it's going to be it still looks pretty cool now.

I Got Pinched Anyway...

Today is St. Patrick's Day and, as such, I felt sticking with the green theme of the week would be fitting enough. Have you ever watched the episode of Planet Earth that's about grasslands? Grass is freaking cool, guys. Seriously. So I was happy to get this extreme close up of some newly sprouted grass right outside my patio. Look at how alive it looks! So happy and green! Ahhh.
It's amateur night at the bars tonight, kids. If you know exactly what I'm talking about then you know better, take it easy and stay safe.

Itchy Eyes! Itchy Ears! Itchy Throat! Yey March!

Right around January 15th or so I started to get a cold. And boy howdy was it a persistent little bugger. I could feel it coming on for at least a couple weeks, then I was actually sick for a couple weeks and then I was in that phase of "is it gone? am I still sick? am I good? I can't tell yet..." feeling. Awesome. About two days after all that was done, the unmistakable feeling of allergies starting in. Fan-freakin-tastic.

This is what's doing it to me, and if I didn't love Spring so much I'd be really resentful. (As it stands I'm only a little bit resentful.) I love moss, I think it's super cool. I love how soft and velvety it looks. This is a patch of moss outside our back door. It's not totally grown in yet, it could be more carpet-like; but it still looks pretty cool.

SPRING!

I won't go so far as to say Spring has sprung here in Minnesota. (I've lived here long enough to feel like there's still at least one more snowstorm left - just to fuck with us.) But it has been feeling pretty Spring-like lately. We've had some very lovely, sunny days breaking 60 degrees. We've also had some rather gloomy, rainy days and a full week of some of the densest fog I've ever seen. (Not fun to drive in, but looks so cool.) Furthermore my allergies have started acting up so I know it's starting to be Spring. Or more to the point - things are starting to grow.

I have no idea what this little sprout is going to turn into in a few weeks, but it sure looks cheerful right now!
