An Assault on the Eyes

In a way I kind of liked this photo when it was in color.  These flowers are just so incredibly pink!  Looking at them was just like PINK!  HI!  IM PINK!  DID YOU NOTICE?  DO YOU SEE ME?  IM PINK!

It was actually kind of like an assault on the eyes.  The photograph in particular was so overwhelmingly PINK! that it was kind of hard to look at.

After playing around with the color in Photoshop I still wasn't happy with it because muddy PINK! is no better than simply PINK!  So I eventually just tried desaturating it altogether and I'm pretty happy with the results.  It's sort of like the original photo took an elephant-sized valium and just chilled out.

Now instead of PINK!  ALL PINK ALL THE TIME!  There's some really cool line and texture happening.

Nothing against PINK! exactly.  It's just that this is way cooler.

You Smell Like a Roses Rear End

I almost didn't convert this to black and white.  This rose was a really very beautiful buttery yellow with just the tiniest bits of pink blushing around the edges.  But when I looked at it in black and white I just loved how the light shown through the petals.  It's really kind of peaceful and lovely.

If you're me anyway.

Former Dandelion

I think dandelions get a bad rep. I mean, everybody thinks they're weeds but I think they're really pretty. And they turn into these really cool puff balls. They're super cool right? I think so.

The Other Side of Flowers

Okay, so I have this thing... it's a little weird. I love the backsides of flowers.

Yeah. If I were a dude and flowers were women (stay with me here) I would totally be a butt man.

Okay let me actually explain. So obviously the front side of flowers are the really amazing part. I clearly like flowers and think they're pretty (or I spend an awful lot of time taking pictures of stuff I don't especially care for). But I've always liked the back side of flowers. The petals tend to have a lot of veining and texture on that side and there's something I just find so beautiful and graceful - elegant really - about the way the stems of flowers connect and open up into petals.

Daffodil!

I've always liked Daffodils. They're very happy flowers. It's hard to not smile when you're looking at daffodils. One of the things I really love about them though is the edge of that inner, tubular petal. It's so ruffly and soft. I like how this captures the contour of that petal.

Redux

Here's another shot of the same flowers from yesterday. This shows the shape of the petals a little more than yesterdays. They're almost bracket-like really }

Spring Narcissus

These are some Narcissus flowers that were in a pot on my grandparents' porch over the weekend. In color they're white and buttery yellow and very pretty. There's just something about them in black & white that I love though. The way the petals look so transparent with the light hitting them. I also just like the general shape and curve of the petals on their own.
